On September 10, Hou Zhenfa, Secretary of the University Party Committee, and Zhu Fangwei, President and Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee, led a delegation to pay a visit to the China Law Society. Wang Hongxiang, Secretary of the Party Members’ Group and Executive Vice President of the China Law Society, and a welcome host consisting of Jing Hanchao, Member of the Leading Party Leadership Group, Vice President and Secretary-General, Yang Wanming, Pan Yiqin and Wang Zhenjiang, Members of the Leading Party Members’ Group and Vice Presidents, held a discussion with the university representatives.
Chen Baifeng, Member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee and Vice President, Liu Jianming, Director of the Party Committee Office and the University Office, Hou Meng, Dean of the Law School, and other relevant staff from the university attended the discussion. Also, present were principal persons in charge of relevant departments and directly affiliated units of the China Law Society.
Wang Hongxiang extended a warm welcome to Hou Zhenfa, Zhu Fangwei and the delegation. He noted that Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL) boasts a long-standing educational history, a distinct revolutionary heritage, and prominent disciplinary strengths, having nurtured many high-caliber rule-of-law talents with both moral integrity and professional competence for the Party and the country.
On the new journey in the new era, he hoped that ZUEL will adhere to the correct political orientation, thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law, and be fully committed to promoting socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics. It should strive to cultivate more rule-of-law talents who possess firm ideals and convictions, a strong sense of national identity, and a solid foundation in legal studies.
He further emphasized that the university should leverage its disciplinary and professional advantages, uphold the principle of integrating theory with practice, and root itself in the vivid practice of socialist rule of law. It needs to conduct in-depth legal theoretical research based on China’s national conditions and address China’s actual issues, advance the study of original concepts, judgments, categories, and theories related to China’s rule of law, and promote the development of a Chinese-style legal disciplinary system, academic system, and discourse system, as well as build an independent knowledge system for Chinese legal studies.
In addition, Wang Hongxiang stressed that ZUEL should take advantage of its regional location, remain committed to serving national strategies, enhance research on legal safeguards for major national development strategies such as the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and step up efforts to cultivate talents specialized in foreign-related rule of law. By doing so, the university can contribute wisdom and strength to comprehensively deepening reform and advancing Chinese modernization on the path of the rule of law.
Hou Zhenfa and Zhu Fangwei stated that ZUEL, under the guidance and support of the China Law Society, will adhere to comprehensively occupying the positions of legal education and legal theory research with Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law, implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, refine the practice-oriented approach to law school education , actively carry out strategic, forward-looking and targeted legal theory research, and better serve the national major strategies and regional development needs, as well as contribute to the construction of a higher-level Peaceful China and Law-based China.
