Delegation Led by Provost Scott from the University of the South(USA) Visited ZUEL

On the morning of June 21, Provost Dr. Scott of Southern University of the United States and his delegation visited our university.The two sides held a meeting in the conference room on the 5th floor of Zhongyuan Building.Zhu Fangwei, President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, was present at the meeting. Liu Renshan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President, presided over the meeting. Principal persons in charge of the International Exchange Department, International Education College and Wenlan College participated in the meeting.

Zhu Fangwei, thePresidentof ZUEL, showed a warm welcome to the delegation from the university of the South on behalf of ZUEL and introduced the institution’s discipline development strategy. He accentuated the coordinated advancement of core disciplines such as economics,laws, management, alongside complementary fields including philosophy, literature, history, science, engineering, arts, and interdisciplinary studies.According to President Zhu, as a liberal arts college, the university is committed to advancing the internationalization of its key disciplines, economics, law and management, while actively constructing a distinctive academic system in philosophy, science, and engineering with Zhongnan characteristics.He hoped for future deep cooperation in digital economy, economics and finance, and economic theory innovation, and strengthening the cooperation in faculty and student exchanges, joint curriculum development, dual-degree programs and other areas.

Scott expressed profound gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by ZUEL and provided a concise overview of Southern University’s historical development, distinguished academic disciplines, and talent cultivation framework. He emphasized that the professionalism and excellence demonstrated by ZUEL in faculty development, research capacity, talent training, and administrative governance had left him a deeply favorable impression. Reflecting on the current international landscape, Scott highlighted that U.S.-China relations face significant challenges, which further underscores the critical importance of bilateral educational exchange and cooperation. Heagreed that higher education institutions in both nations must shoulder greater responsibility to advance U.S.-China relations toward a more positive and constructive trajectory through strengthened academic collaboration. He is convinced that the cooperation between the two universities will achieve fruitful success.


At the meeting, the two universities jointly signed the Memorandum of Understanding between ZUEL and Southern University of the United States.
