President of the ASEAN Economic and Trade Promotion Association Pov Somnang and his delegation visited Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL) on March 20. The two sides held a meeting in the conference room on the fifth floor of Zhongyuan Building. Zhu Fangwei, President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of ZUEL, together with Liu Renshan, Vice President and Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, attended the meeting. Heads from the International Exchange Office, the School of International Education, and the School of Continuing Education also participated in the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Vice President Liu Renshan.

On behalf of ZUEL, Zhu Fangwei extended a warm welcome to the delegation of the ASEAN Economic and Trade Promotion Association. President Zhu briefly introduced the history and orientation of ZUEL, and reviewed the exchanges and cooperation with ASEAN countries in recent years. He further noted that ASEAN nations have always been key contributors to ZUEL’s international educational collaboration and exchanges. It was hoped that this visit would mark the beginning of closer cooperation between ZUEL and ASEAN countries, Cambodia, in particular, in areas such as student exchanges and joint academic programs.

Pov Somnang stated that education is fundamental to the development of a country. ASEAN countries, especially Cambodia, are faced with a significant talent gap in the fields of law, economics, and management as the economic and trade relationship between China and ASEAN deepens. Based on current collaborations, it is hoped that both sides could further expand their cooperation, particularly by promoting interactions in legal education, scientific research, and cultural exchanges, so as to cultivate more interdisciplinary talents with international perspectives and cross-cultural communicative competence for ASEAN and also for Cambodia.

The two sides held in-depth discussions on specific cooperative projects and reached preliminary agreements on a series of collaborative initiatives. After that, Pov andthe delegationvisited the History Museumof ZUELand the Museum of Chinese Monetary and Financial History.
