Professor Zhang Qi Appointed to the Board of the International Panel on Accountancy Education (IPAE)

Recently, Professor Zhang Qi from Zhongnan University of Economics and Lawwas officially appointed as a member of the International Panel on Accountancy Education (IPAE). On January 10th, Professor Zhang, as the newly appointed Chinese member, attended an online meeting organized by the IPAE for new members along with newly appointed members from Canada, Kenya, Colombia, Sri Lanka, Romania, and other countries.

IPAE is a key feature of the International Federation of Accountants’ (IFAC) approach to advancing accountancy education at the global level. Its primary duties include formulating and updating international accounting education standards, providing guidance for accounting education worldwide, thereby ensuring that the professional competence and capabilities of accounting professionals meet international standards.

The panel consists of distinguished accounting education experts from different countries and regions. These members are primarily responsible for formulating and revising international accountancy education standards and fostering their global implementation and application. They also need to advance the coordination of global accounting education through best practice sharing. Currently, IPAE comprises 20 members representing 19 countries.

Professor Zhang Qi has served three consecutive terms as a member of the Consultative Advisory Group (CAG) of International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB) since 2019, fully participating in the formulation of international standards for public sector accounting. In January of last year, Professor Zhang Qi was nominated by the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CICPA) to run for the position of director of IPAE. After passing the interview in May of that year, he was officially elected in December.

Professor Zhang Qi has been committed to accounting research and teaching for a long time and has led his team to deeply participate in the formulation of international standards for public sector accounting and the practice of government accounting reform in China. He has won many honors such as the National Teaching Achievement Award, the National Advanced Accounting Worker, and the National Accounting Leader. The appointment as a director of the IPAE marks another breakthrough in promoting education opening to the outside world, participating in international affairs, and expanding international academic influence.
