———2020 New Year speech
Dear teachers, students, alumni and friends:
As the old saying goes, “When the spring comes, everything begins to renew”.On behalf of the Party Committee and the School Administration, we would like to extend our sincere New Year’s greetings to all teachers, students, staff (including retired staff), alumni and warm-hearted people from all walks of life who care about and support the development of our school.
2019 marked the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 70th anniversary of the school’s relocation to Wuhan.This year, we witnessed a wonderful moment for the development of our motherland and school:On the 70th anniversary of the National Day, the singing of 2,000 teachers and students telling the motherland affectionately under the national flag was still lingering in their ears;The Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee drew up a grand blueprint for China’s governance. The picture of experts and scholars gathering together to discuss governance plans, contributing the wisdom to the development of ZUEL still emerges;More than 1,000 teachers sang the school song together and made a pledge to firmly go to the place where the people need it; The education with the theme of remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind has been carried out in depth, keeping the initial heart, undertaking the mission and grasping implementation, which aims at solving development problems and warming the hearts of teachers and students.
Original aspiration guides the direction. As a red university founded by the Party during the 1948 War of Liberation, ZUEL has always cherished the initial heart of running universities that the people need and education that the people are satisfied with, keeping pace with the times, sharing the fate with the motherland and forging ahead with the people.In 2019, during the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of China, and the theme education of remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind, we strengthened the initial heart of educating brilliant people for the Party and the country, kept in mind the mission of cultivating virtues and people, strengthened the ideological, political and action consciousness of building up theconsciousness to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core, and keep in alignment, strengthening the confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics and firmly realizing the two maintenance.Chen Baosheng, the Party secretary and minister of the Ministry of Education, and other leaders came to the school for investigation and guidance, pointing out the way forward for us to implement the six good requirements in the construction of colleges and universities in the new era.
The mission gathers strength.This year, we brought in talents, furtherly developing the construction of the teaching staff.Professor Wu Handong and Professor Zhao Dexin were selected as the second Jingchu Social Science Masters; Professor Guo Daoyang wrote about the cultural confidence of the Chinese nation. It took 9 years finishing the 3 million words of General History of Chinese Accounting to celebrate the 70th birthday of motherland; Associate Professor Sun Xianlin, who has volunteered to make up lessons for students for 20 years, won the title of National Model Teacher; Ten Teachers became First Winners of Teaching and Educating Awards; The number of scientific research projects approved at or above the provincial levels has reached a new high;A large number of teachers who taught challenging and educating classes have been praised by other teachers and students as role models around them. This year, we insisted on developing our school with win-win principle and deepening the opening up of schools.We have established a Sino-Italian College with Rome I University and an overseas campus with Rennes University in France. Moreover, the Serbian and Austrian sub-centers of the Field Experiment Research Center and the China Income Distribution Research Center jointly established with Nottingham University are in good operation.This year, our students pursued their dreams bravely and made many outstanding achievements which included more than 100 championships and runners-up in international and domestic competitions. And employment rate and employment quality keep similar colleges and universities ahead.This year, our campus has become more comfortable and beautiful, teachers and students' sense of attainment and happiness have been continuously enhanced, and the social reputation has been continuously improved. For many years in a row, our school has ranked first in China's financial and economic universities on the list of China Alumni Association Network.
Dreams illuminate the future. 2020 is the decisive year for the Chinese Communist Party to lead the whole Party and the people of all ethnic groups in the country to build a well-off society in an all-round way and realize the goal of the first century.2020 is also the key year for the construction of Double WorldClass schools and the closing year of the 13th Five-Year Plan.The Fourth Party Congress will determine the development strategy, objectives, tasks and action plan of our school in the new era. As the old saying goes, it is more urgent for a boat to wander in the middle, and steeper for a man to wander halfway. We still face many challenges. In 2020, we will transform the achievements of the theme education of remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind into a powerful driving force for the reform and development of schools, and strive to fulfill the grand vision put forward by the Fourth Party Congress of school. We should stick to the fundamental task of cultivating people and virtues, adhere to the characteristic development of integrating finance, politics and law, fulfill the requirements of the six good in colleges and universities in the new era, and focus on accelerating the construction of Double WorldClass, thus promoting the modernization of the school governance system and governance capability, and contributing to the modernization of education, the construction of a powerful educational country, and the success of education satisfying the people.
We need to firmly carry out our mission with our true mind.In 2020, we will stand at the new starting point of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and rapid development of school, to unswervingly follow the path of socialist education with Chinese characteristics, and contribute our wisdom and strength to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. I hope that we all can sail through the wind and waves in the new journey of new era.
