The 7th session of the Straits President’s Forum of School of Law was held in our university

News NetworkReporter Fa XinOn October 29, The 7th session of the Straits President 's Forum of School of Law was held on Nanhu campus of our university . Over 100 honored guests from 47 universities in the mainland China and 11 universities in Taiwan and Macao, including Zhang Wanming, Executive Director of China Law Society, Director of the Department of Law and Regulation of Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of China, and Prof. Pan Weida, President of Soochow university, and Prof. Jia Yu, President of NorthWest University of Politics & Law, attended the forum. Meanwhile, and Prof. Zhang Zhonghua, Chair of the University Council of ZUEL, Prof. Yang Canming, President of ZUEL, ‘Wenlan’ Senior Prof. Wu Handong, Prof. Qi Wenyuan, vice Chair of the University Council of ZUEL, the vice president--Prof. Yao Li, Prof. Liu Renshan and other comrades from the school of Law, Criminal Justice School and other relevant functional departments, attended the meeting.

Director of the Law Association of Relations Across the Taiwan Straits and the Department of Law and Regulation of Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of China, Zhang Wanming, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony.

Our president Prof. Yang Canming presided over the opening ceremony. Prof. Zhang Zhonghua, Chair of the University Council of ZUEL, gave a speech on the history, structure, talent cultivation and achievements of Juris Science of ZUEL. He pointed out that our university and the relevant law disciplines have had active exchanges and maintained close relations of cooperation with many universities of the mainland,Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, carrying out extensive interaction in the various forms, and deeply exchanging and cooperating on multiple levels, which effectively promoted the development of law and other disciplines. The Chair Zhang Zhonghua expressed thanks and welcome to the participating leaders and guests,and wished the forum a complete success.

Vice Director of China Law Society Prof. Zhang Wenxian’s speech was delivered by Prof. Qi Wenyuan, Vice Chair of the University Council of ZUEL. Prof. Zhang Wenxian pointed out that at the beginning of the double-first-class construction, while achieving fruitful results, legal education accumulated chronic gridlocks needed to be reformed in an all-round way. Zhang Wanming, Executive Director of China Law Society, Director of the Department of Law and Regulation of Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of China, pointed out in his speech that the presidents of both sides should continue to offer advice and suggestions to promote the peaceful development of cross-straits relations. Prof. Pan Weida, President of Soochow University and Prof. Jia Yu, President of NorthWest University of Politics & Law, delivered speeches respectively on the exchange futures and histories of both law schools.

Prof. Yao Li, vice president of ZUEL, chaired the keynote speech. Prof. Yang Canming gave a keynote speech to discuss the future competition of legal undergraduate education in the views of standpoints, attitudes and measures of the undergraduate education of ZUEL. He suggested that undergraduate law education should regard the quality of personnel training as the core, highlight the characteristics of talent cultivation to be the starting point, and promote the innovation of systems and mechanisms which is the assurance, so as to face comprehensive legal education in the future; Prof. Lin Gensheng respectively discussed legal talent training modes in short-term, medium-term and long-term perspectives; Prof. Li Shuzhong emphasized that law schools should set a target to cultivate legal professionals on the basis of the Views on the improvement of national unity legal professional qualification system published by the Central People’s Government. Prof. Sun Changyong, vice president of Southwest University of Political Science & Law, Prof. Kuang Chenghua, dean of the School of Law of Chung Yuan Christian University, Prof. Li Yugi, president of Gansu Institute of Political Science and Law, Xu Hanming, Director of Rule of Law Research Base of China Law Society and President of Hubei Provincial Research Institute for Rule of Law Development, respectively delivered keynote speeches.

All participants were invited to discuss in two sub-forums. The theme of one sub-forum was First-Class Legal Characteristic Discipline Construction which discusses the two stages based on the discipline construction models and innovative teaching methods. Assistant President of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Prof. Liu Maolin, president of Hubei Police Academy, Prof. Liu Dahong, Chair of the University Council of Wuhan Railway Vocational College of Technology, Prof. Wang Naiyu, Director of Law Department of Providence University, Prof. Gao Lihong, Director of Development Planning Department of ZUEL and other about 30 scholars from both sides participated in this forum. All the scholars began to discuss and comment on ‘Legal Discipline Construction’ from many aspects, such as law educational practice and discipline construction modes. The theme of the other sub-forum was ‘The Cultivation of Excellent Legal Talents’. Prof. Wang Chongmin, Vice President of Hainan University and Prof. Cai Lidong, Dean of School of Law in JilinUniversity, presided over the forum. Prof. Jia Yu, President of Southwest University of Political Science & Law and other scholars attended the forum.

At the end of the sub-forum, all the scholars gathered in Academic Hall of “Wen Hong” to attend the closing ceremony. Prof. Liu Renshan, vice president of ZUEL, worked as the chair. Prof. Lin Guoquan, vice dean of the School of Law of National Chengchi University, pointed out the purpose of legal education and announced that the next forum would be held at National Chung Cheng University in Taiwan. On behalf of our university, Prof. Qi Wenyuan, vice Chair of the University Council of ZUEL, made a concluding speech to express our heartfelt gratitude to the guests and wished the next Forum a complete success and was looking forward to getting together again in the following year. On the occasion of the closing ceremony, Prof. Liu Renshan announced the successful conclusion of the 7th the Straits President's Forum of School of Law.

During the one-day heated discussions and in-depth exchanges, the Straits Presidents of School of Law discussed some prominent problems about law education, exchanged experience to provide important references for the cultivation of the legal talents of two sides and promoting the mutual developments and prosperity.
