On May 30, Chris Rawson, Vice President of Curtin University in Australia, with his delegation, visited Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL). The two sides held a meeting in the conference room on the sixth floor of Zhongyuan Building. Liu Renshan, Vice President and Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, attended the meeting, together with heads from the International Exchange Office, and the School of International Education.

Liu Renshan, on behalf of ZUEL, extended a warm welcome to the delegation from Curtin University and reviewed the 20-year collaborative journey between the two institutions, highlighting the achievements made through their joint programs in statistics and accounting. He emphasized that statistics as a discipline is of indisputable importance, both from a historical perspective and in the context of contemporary rule of law system, which serves as the strongest foundation for further cooperation between ZUEL and Curtin University. He pointed out that exchanges and collaborations between universities facilitate economic and trade interactions as well as cultural exchange between the two countries, which is helpful in fostering friendly relations, and finally generating such a virtuous cycle. He expressed hope that both universities would take a long-term vision to establish joint teams and intensify their cooperation in talent development and scientific research.

Professor Rawson gave full recognition to the achievements made through their cooperation. He noted that Curtin University and ZUEL share a lot in common. For example, Curtin University was named in honor of the Australian statesman John Curtin, while the engraved name of ZUEL above the main entrance was hand written by Chinese politician Deng Xiaoping. The two decades of continuous collaboration and friendship between the institutions have given Rawson great confidence for deepening cooperation in fields such as data science and applied statistics in the future and raising the quality and level of joint programs. Building upon this educational collaboration, he believed that Curtin University and ZUEL would contribute more to fostering neighborly friendship between the two nations.

During the meeting, the head from the International Exchange Office introduced the project of building an international campus to Rawson and the delegation, on which the two sides exchanged opinions.
