Birthday Celebration for ZUEL: more than 160 “eco-explorers” enjoyed a cycling campus tour, advocating a green and low-carbon lifestyle

Ping An Low-Carbon Cycling, cohosted by Ping An Group, Ping An Bank Wuhan Branch and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL) was held in Nanhu Campus on May 28th. More than 160 participants, including heads and members from Ping An Bank, faculty members, and students from ZUEL, gathered by the South Lake, savoring cycling. Through this activity, a lifestyle of low-carbon was advocated and the 75th anniversary of the founding of ZUEL was celebrated.

This event was attended by Deng Hong, the governor of Ping An Bank Wuhan Branch and Party Committee secretary, Deng Dengliang and Jin Fen, deputy governors, Hou Zhenfa, secretary of the CPC ZUEL Committee, Yang Canming, president, deputy secretary of the CPC ZUEL Committee. Meanwhile, persons-in-charge from Office of the CPC Committee and President Office, Security Department, Labor Union, Youth League Committee, Department of Alumni Work and Social Cooperation, Logistics Department, School Infirmary and Sports Department also attended the ceremony.

It embodies an expectation for a healthy green lifestyle, and commitment to the New Development Philosophy”, said by Secretary Hou. On behalf of ZUEL, he sent heartfelt congratulations for the 35th anniversary of the founding of Ping An Group and extended his warmwelcome to all the participants. Meanwhile, Secretary Hou offered his highest salutations to Ping An Group for their sense of social responsibility and contributions to the society. He also expressed a strong will to strengthen the cooperation between ZUEL and Ping An Group in ensuring green and sustainable development, stimulating innovation, and leading the scientific and technological development.

It showcased the image of Wuhan as a civilized city, while boosting health of the participants as well as promoting mutual communication between Ping An Group and ZUEL. This cycling, she hoped, would further the exchanges among cyclists, strengthen their communication and cooperation, while promoting solidarity among the cyclists. Three representatives call on a low-carbon lifestyle

All the participants, led by three representatives, actively responded to their calls of “lower carbon, better life”, “start a low-carbon lifestyle with Ping An”, with their voices echoing throughout the campus.

After sufficient warm-up activities, more than 160 cyclists were divided into 6 groups and equipped with bicycles, cycling helmets and necessities for refreshing with the help of their team leaders. Subsequently, President Yang Canming announced the official start of Ping An Low-carbon Cycling. The cyclists then embarked on a campus bike ride of approximately 5.27 km from the Wenhan Building, rode along the Nanhu Lake Greenway, passed the Wenji Building and the Wenhuan Building, and finally returned to the starting point.

The energy supply station was set up for riders to rest and restore energy. Two fitness trackers would be awarded to the riders and at the finish line to obtain digital souvenirs based on NFR for this event by scanning a QR code.

“The past few years have witnessed great changes on campus, which have become more picturesque than before. So on the second lap, my colleagues all slowed down to enjoy the view.” Yuan Zhisheng, an employee of Ping An Bank Wuhan Branch, also an alumnus of ZUEL, was the first to sign up and support the event. “As an employee of Ping An Bank and an alumnus of ZUEL, I am proud to participate in this cycling event to celebrate the birthday of my alma mater and my company. I hope to pass on the concept of low-carbon lifestyle and environmental protection to every client of Ping An through this activity.”

 “This activity is really meaningful, as we can not only appreciate the beauty of the campus and enjoy the fun of cycling, but also promote environmental protection”, said Wu Shenhan, the first faculty member of ZUEL to sign up for this event. He would act on and spread the idea of low-carbon travel, so as to be exemplar for more people to become green travelers and live a low-carbon life.

 “This event has been well-received by many Ping An employees, the faculty and students of ZUEL, allowing them to savor the joy of riding, and to practice the idea of living a green and healthy life compatible with a low-carbon world.” Da Ning, Director of Alumni and Social Work Department, said that ZUEL has attached great importance to the event, with all departments well-cooperated. He also believed further efforts would be made in this department for deeper green development and synergies among industry, academia, research, and application.

Ping An Group held the Ping An Low-carbon Cycling in Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Wuhan simultaneously as reported. Just the day before, Ping An Group held its grand 35th anniversary celebration and launched its employee carbon accounting platform, the first carbon accounting system in the financial and insurance industry to manage the carbon emissions data of its 300,000 employees. This cycling activity marked the very first low-carbon initiative after the launch.
