News Network (Correspondent Wang Shiwei) At noon of October 18th, hosted by School of Social Sciences and co-hosted by School of Criminal Justice, the symposium of “Learning the Spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and Constructing First-class Disciplines” was held in the meeting room on second floor of Wenzhi Building in order to study and implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and promote the “Double First-class” construction of ZUEL. The symposium, presided by Professor Yao Li, was attended by Professor Yang Canming, President of ZUEL, Professor Yao Li, Vice President of ZUEL, Professor Wu Handong and Professor Qi Wenyuan, Directors of Academic Committee of ZUEL, Professor Kang Junxin, Executive Vice Dean of School of Social Sciences and representatives of leaders and young and middle-aged teachers of School of Criminal Justice, School of Law, School of Finance, School of Finance and Taxation, School of Economics, Research Institutes of the university and so on.
In his speech, Professor Wu Handong pointed out that, the theme of the new era was stilldevelopment with people as the center. There was a new evolution of the principal contradiction in the report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China that,the principal contradictionof Chinese society had become the contradiction between unbalanced and inadequate development and the people's ever-growing needs for a better life. Against the background of the new era, the university also needed new development. The new mission and objective of the new period from now to 2020 was to construct first-class disciplines. We should keep the original intention of fighting for the development of ZUEL and the academic objective in mind to break down the academic barriers and the boundary of age and work together for the development of ZUEL. According to Professor Wu Handong, the first-class discipline construction should follow the order of constructing the platform of first-class disciplines, producing first-class academic achievements and cultivate first-class talents.
Professor Qi Wenyuan said that, according to the report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, cultural confidence represented a fundamental and profound force that sustained the development of a country and a nation. The Communist Party of China had actively guided and promoted China’s advanced culture while keeping China’s fine traditional culture alive and strong. As a university with humanities and social science as the features, ZUEL would play a better role in the promotion of cultural confidence of China and apply the localization of Marxism in China to the first-class discipline construction to tell a great story of China.
Professor Yang Canming took “People-centered” approach as the topic and said that, in China, the spirit of party and the spirit of people were the same, and the spirit of people ran through the whole report of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. In particular, in the third part of the report, the contents of people-centered approach were logically organized from the principal status of the people to the people running the country and to ensuring and improving living standards through development, stressing on maintaining the close connection between the party and the people. The development of the university should also abide this approach. The reform and development of the university must rely on the faculty and students, must be for the faculty and students and the achievements of reform and development of the university must be shared by the faculty and students. The first-class discipline construction needed to rely on the faculty, the students and the alumni. Any decision made by the leading group of the university should be centered in the faculty and the students, considering the benefits of them. Yang Canming said, the first-class discipline construction demanded the contribution and efforts from the faculty and the students, especially the young teachers with expanded limits, broad horizon and ambitious goal, in order to cultivate the excellent students into first-class talents for the nation and the society.
Later on, other attendees made speeches on the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China from different aspects in the symposium, including Professor Kang Junxin of School of Social Sciences, Directors of Center of Collaborative Innovation Professor Zhao Man and Professor Zhu Xinrong, Dean of School of Finance Professor Tang Wenjin, Dean of School of Finance and Taxation Professor Hu Hongshu, Dean of School of Criminal Justice Professor Hu Xiangyang, Secretary of Party Committee of School of Criminal Justice Li Hong, the young Chang Jiang Scholar Professor Chen Bofeng, and representative of young teachers Professor Qi Jianggang.
In the end of the symposium, Professor Yao Li said that the Chinese Dream was the dream of the country, the nation and every Chinese. It was the good vision the predecessors had fought for their whole lives and also the common ideal of the faculty and students of ZUEL. The report of General Secretary Xi Jinping was a guidance for the first-class discipline construction of ZUEL and she hoped the faculty could, holding on to their dreams, fight for perfection and get ready for the appraisal of first-class discipline construction.
